The Effects of Soil Types and Moisture Levels on Bacterial Wilt Disease of Groundnut (Arachis hypogea)

The effect of soil type and soil moisture on the severity of bacterial wilt of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum was carried out in a greenhouse. Disease severity increased significantly with the increase in soil moisture from slightly above wilting point (-15 bar) to slightly below saturation point (-0.003 bar) for each soil type. At the same moisture level, disease severity was found to be highest in Munchong series, followed by Bungor series and lastly Serdang colluvium soil. Soil types, alone and in combination with varying soil moisture levels, had a significant effect on the severity of bacterial wilt of groundnut.
